Monochrome

Black and white is the new filter & definitely a top pick for the top instagram influencers. Although designers have taken the concept and changed it up a bit - by adding a splash of colour. Inspired by Duotone by blending two colours into an image or photo. The new trend is to only include 1 colour variant on either parts of the design or the entire design - this has already been used widely around the world.

Liquid Design or Illustration

Liquid morphing and illustration adds a dynamic feel to overall design and adds a sense of serenity - a calming sense. It can be 3D "lava lamp" style or a 2D wave paper cut-out look and feel.

As opposed to geometric shapes which have strictly fixed edges and curves, liquidy shapes suggest creativity, agility, and movement. Leaving out the edges helps achieve a smooth, soft look which many designers want to recreate

Shiny Metals

Prestige and elegance has no evolved and become a little more shiny. Design has become a little bit more of a combination of realistic elements and utilizing them in various forms of marketing material - in essence, by bringing it into the digital world. Mostly high end brands or those marketing a high end product had the tendency to add gold or some other form of metallic element to the fundamentals of the design, i.e. the logo. It gives you the same effect of comparing a regular lamborghini to a gold plated one. Let that image linger for a while.

Creative Custom Typography

Fonts are now standing out and becoming more essential than ever! Putting such thought and effort has never been so worthwhile, by giving freedom and excitement to something as "seen so many times" such as the alphabet. Now, the trend of adding in some beautiful floral elements or abstract pieces or even changing up the font to a point where it becomes a level of interpretation. Typography 2020 is a definite must to consider to stand out this year.

Composition of Vector Drawings & Photography

Basically, in layman's terms, it is doodling on an image. Like bringing back a bit of nostalgia when you were sitting in the hair salon waiting for your mom to finish getting her hair done or on a long drive to the beach in the holidays, where when you are busy scrolling through the magazine crosswords, you find yourself doodling a mustache on every single model on the magazine. Its a fun way to bring through some old school creativity and bring some human entity in design. Keeping it fun in 2020.

Drawing it - simply

The lack of detail allows designers to focus not on the art itself but the message it conveys. In 2020, illustrations in design will often look oversimplified, sketchy, and even… childish.

Colours of nature

Vintage in 2020? Yes, and we love the idea of having some throwbacks but this time, it comes with a little twist. Keeping it natural and close to mother nature - a combination of hand drawn elements with illustrations and a grungy feel can make your campaign look appealing this year.

The vintage style is also used in brand identity and package design, typography and lettering. It seems that in 2020, we will be experiencing a blast from the past. Well, at least when it comes to graphic design.

Geometric Patterns

Even though this design style seems simple but it actually requires a lot of work, and designers really know how to appreciate the efforts made in this design style. The only problem is to make sure the message remains to consistent and is easy to come across.

Everyone involved in graphic design and art will tell you – it all comes down to basic geometric shapes. And since many designers are aiming for simplicity in their design, using plain geometric shapes is still one of the leading trends in the field for 2020.
